'B' Company 12th Battalion (Pioneers) Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment) Pioneers were troops for manual labour as opposed to fighting

Died of bullet wounds to the abdomen and thigh at 6:00pm on Saturday 11th November 1916 aged 20.

On Thursday 9th November 1916 Arthur was on sentry duty when he was struck by a bullet which entered his abdomen and thigh, he died three days later after sinking into a coma.

Burial Place

Arthur is buried in the Barlin Communal Cemetery Extension France which was used for burials by the 6th Casualty Clearing Station.

Born on Thursday 3rd December 1896, resident in Belper, Arthur enlisted in Derby on Monday 22nd November 1915 and was the son of Reuben and Emily Tomlinson, of Openwoodgate, Belper.

Employment

Prior to enlistment Arthur was employed at Smedley's Engineering Works Belper.
