William was truck by a bullet in the lower part of his body when on night patrol in France.

William had moved to Canada 3 years before his death.


William's family lived on a small farm on the Chevin owned by Mr Strutt. He went to the Hazelwood School where he won a scholarship which entitled him to two years at Wirksworth Grammar School. He was engaged to Sylvia Taylor of 33 Nottingham Road, Belper.
