Killed in action on 23rd April 1917.

Thomas trained at Brockton, Staffs, was attached to the Sherwoods, passing into the Training Reserve before his departure to France in October 1916. He was then transfered to to the Lancashire Fusiliers and finally to the Border Regiment.

His platoon sargent wrote to his parents stating that Private Turner fell when about 200 yards from the German lines when fire was opened up on them. He was buried behing the lines, the usual cross being erected over the grave.

Before enlisting Thomas was working for Mr John Hodgkinson of Holly Seat Farm, he had also worked as a groom for Mr Strutt at Bridge Hill.
